Nancy was an artist and a dreamer. After visiting Monet’s garden, she was determined to transform her slimy, mosquito-infested pond into a masterpiece. Harry Hemsworth, reputedly a cousin of the legendary Thor, was doing the work, and naturally Nancy had to supervise.
Finally, the first lily had opened, and her art class was coming in the morning. The cake was just out of the oven, when her grandson burst through the backdoor clutching her precious lily: “Nanna, I brought you a flower.”
Nancy was dying inside, but tried to smile. Hopefully, Harry could sticky tape it back on.

Oooops
Haha, thanks for the chuckle Rowena 🙂
Oh, the innocence. Nice one.
Oh bless him!
Now that’s a great big ‘oops’!! Glad she kept her temper.

What a loving Nanna! Sticky tape, huh? I don’t know. . .
Dear Rowena,
How disheartening. Good Nanna for not losing her cool. Cute.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Forget about the lotus, have Harry introduce her to Thor 😉
Great story. How quickly meticulous planning falls apart.
Oh No! At least the child’s heart was in the right place. But poor Nanna! Nice moral in the story, Rowena!
Had me with another Hemsworth. Is he single? Buff? 😀
Sweet story, sticky tape fixes everything.
I particularly liked “The cake was just out of the oven”. It’s a slightly unexpected detail that is exactly right and describes the nature of the art class better than anything else could. I love Nancy’s self control when confronted by the plucked waterlily!
Kids sometimes test your patience. And Nancy passed that test for sure 🙂
This was a lovely write. How many times have mothers and grandmothers had to swallow their true feelings!
Oh dear, his intent was good and I felt her mixed emotions. Nicely written story, Rowena!
Oh oh … But … yeah, good for her – he came with love …
The things kids do! A charming tale.
Here’s mine!
Thanks, Keith.
Thanks, Brenda.
So true. We’re masters of diplomacy.
Thank you very much, Penny. I was very pleased with how this one panned out. Th backstory which inspired all these bits and pieces also makes a story. My parents had a rather handsome handyman who was rather popular with the ladies although he was a decent character. A cousin of the Hemsworths appeared on The Voice here and a blogging friend in the UK built a pond a few years ago. My parents have also been to Monet’s Garden. I didn’t get there when I was in France. I think calm water lilies were a bit to placid for a 22 year old.
Hope you are keeping well and safe.
Best wishes,
Rowena
The Hemsworth cousin part wasn’t made up. One appeared on The Voice. In terms of his appearance, let”s just say he didn’t let the side down.
Best wishes,
Rowena
Thanks very much. I thought it commented nicely on those groups of ladies when they get together and everything is expected to be just so, but in this instance it only has to look okay. Stay in position until everyone goes home.
Too true. I”m a frequent user of Plan B.
Thanks very much, Rochelle. I think that can be one of the great distinctions between parents and grandparents. The grandparents can have such patience and forgiveness.
I wasn’t too sure about the sticky tape either, but that might be next week’s installment.
Thanks, Susan
Thanks.
You’re welcome Iain.
Cousin of Thor, I thought as a grandchild he may have been watching the marvel films and leaping about playing Thor, now I guess its something to do with the singer on the voice? its a lovely piece with so much crammed in, it reads beautifully excellently done!!
I vaguely remember that. 😀
Oh, that hurts. 🙂 But he meant well. Great story.

Any parent worth the title has been here. Great playing the little kid verses suppressed anger card.
