False Alarm…Friday Fictioneers 1st February 2023.
“Don’t come up, Joe” Sharon shouted with one leg swung over the
balcony looking like she was about to jump. “Fried potatoes”. That was
their code that her husband was home.
Joe was disappointed. He was madly in love with Sharon, but she wouldn’t
leave him on account of the kids, although he was starting to wonder. All his mates
were saying the same thing: “She’s usin’ ya, mate”.
Joe didn’t care. It was better than being alone.
Suddenly, a blaze of sirens pulled up… Police, Ambulance and Fire.
“Madam, please step back from the balcony!”
Another false alarm.

100 words PHOTO PROMPT © Alicia Jamtaas
This is another contribution to Friday Fictioneers, which is hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields at Addicted to Purple. We write 100 words to a photo prompt and it’s rather inspirational.
By the way, I’ve been away for the last three weeks house minding in Sydney at Cremorne Point on the harbour. I had an absolute ball ferry hopping and soaking it all in through my camera lens. If you’re wanting to embark on a virtual experience, please check out my previous and upcoming posts.
Best wishes,
Rowena
A risky business all round.
Yes, indeed.
Dear Rowena,
I think he should listen to his mates. Nicely done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Maybe he’s using her? I mean, he doesn’t have to commit and still gets some.
Good job on the prompt. This was a fun read.
Oh dear, nobody’s coming out of this one happy!
Jumper watching! Lovely
(Sharon shouted from with one leg swung … there’s a word missing from this sentence) This sounds like a dicey situation all the way around.
Dodge City!!! Sydney sounded good. Good take on the prompt
Thanks.
Well spotted, Alicia. It was actually one word too many and I made an additional edit while I was there. Thanks so much for providing this week’s prompt. It was a great photo.
Best wishes,
Rowena
Thanks, Neil.
Yes.
Thanks, Dan and thanks for continuing to read my work despite my intermittent absences. I went away and had trouble logging onto wordpress on Geoff’s laptop.
I always try to take note when you show up in my inbox. I enjoy the things you share, and I feel like I know your family.
This is why the phrase ‘follow your heart’ get us in trouble. Nicely done.
Now he has competition, all those men and girls in uniform.
She’s usin’ ya, mate 🙂
Oh, dear can’t see this ending well! 🙂
I don’t think this relationship is going anywhere. And it certainly shouldn’t.
Listen to ya’ mates mate!
c’mon, joe, wake up! there are plenty more fish in the sea. 🙂
Awww this won’t end well. I’m not sure who’s using who in this one. Great take on the prompt 🙂
Thank you, Fleur. I’m surprised by some of the relationships that last and equally some of those that don’t.
Well said!
Yes. I have a few mates in similar situations who don’t listen either.
You are welcome. And I agree, the most unlikely last, yet some that seem rock solid…no. One of life’s puzzles!
Well done.
